September Fab Friday Color Play at O'Scraps

I love looking through the trees and capturing the beams of light from the sun.  The light and shadows are fascinating.  The lower the sun, the longer the shadows!

The garden is about gone for the year, but the marigolds are going strong!  And the bumblebees have really been enjoying them, too, of late.  I didn’t really see them earlier in the season.  Maybe they have been buzzing around while I was not around.

Middle-Aged Women

This boy of mine!  We were having a conversation tonight and he suggested that I start a Facebook message with another mom a specific way, then he said, “trust me, mom.  I know middle-aged women.”  Is 41 “middle-aged”?

Jubilate by Anna Aspnes at O'Scraps

The beauty of the colors in my flowers this year make me smile!  They have survived my inattention.  However, I have been more attentive this year than usual.  I tried to be more diligent in keeping them watered and dead blooms cut off of the plants.

The Fuchsia is a tender perennial.  I gave the plant to Elisabeth who is going to try planting it outside to see if it comes up next year.  I hope they do.

June Review

Left Side

Journaling reads: June was full of family and friends time, vacation time, garden goodness, birthday celebrations....all kinds of goodness and lovely things shared!
Vacation for Mark and I was a bike trip to the Outer Banks, NC. We visited all 7 of NC's lighthouses. A wonderful, bucket list trip.
My sister, Kim, who lives in Florida spent the first week of June with me. We had lots of fun playing games and spending time with my good friends, Ilene and Carolyn. Of course we had to teach Kim how to play Rummikub!
Also got to spend time with my daughters and their family.
We attended a birthday party of Nellie's. She turned 5 and will begin Kindergarten this year!
Our trip to the Outer Banks was wonderful! We enjoyed the seagulls following the ferry boats, especially! So fun to watch! We did not want to climb the lighthouses, just visit and take pictures, even if at a distance.
And I just realized I forgot to write about one of our O sisters living near me and we met for lunch.....@Danesa! I'll have to edit my copy of the layout.

Right Side

Journaling reads: My snow peas arrived and they were really good! I plan to plant more next year!
When we got back from our lighthouse trip, we took the bike for a bath to wash off the ocean salt.
We ate breakfast with Jen when we went to watch Jaxon play in the All Start tournament.
We went to watch Dakota play ball, too.
And I took a team picture for Jaxon and had to photoshop out a light pole.
And to finish out the month, Ilene and I met Elisabeth and the grandkids at Finch Park for a KFC picnic lunch.

September Monthly Review by Anna Aspnes

I LOVE these templates!

Left Side:
Journaling reads: The first part of the month was pretty busy with another funeral, working on cleaning up the garden, taking bike rides, etc. Some of my most favorite times is when I get to spend time with my good friends, Carolyn and Ilene. Our favorite thing to do is play Rummikub. When possible, Mark joins us and we have a meal together.

Right Side:
Journaling reads: We still have tomatoes and a few peppers, lots of basil, a little bit of lettuce, chives, nasturtiums, oregano, and tons of marigolds! All in all, my little garden did pretty well this year, thank the Lord! Even the wild flowers and sunflowers bloomed nicely!
Mark and I took a few bike rides through the month, as usual but weren't able to ride as often.
The weather is finally getting to a temperature that allows us to enjoy some fire pit time with friends and family. We had Bobby, Joy, Calvin and Sharon over. Joy brought her two grandsons and Mark gave them rides on the 4-wheeler.
Michael has had a rough summer. It is good to see his smiling face and to know that God is seeing him through.

September Creative Photo Editing Challenge #1

Done for the September Creative Photo Editing Challenge #1
Journaling reads:
I ordered a packet of mixed sunflower seeds and a packet of Maximillian sunflower seeds and planted them this past Spring. They have just begun to bloom in the last week or so. Now I am trying to figure out the names of those that have come up. The closest I could come up with is that these are Velvet Queen Sunflowers and it looks like there are several varieties (according to my Google search). I love these!

Process:
1. Duplicated the large sunflower photo
2. Enhanced the duplicate to Black and White in PSE15
3. Created the Layer Mask
4. Selected around the portion of the flower I wanted full color returned and filled the selected area in using the hard round brush tool at 100%.
5. Using the dry brush tool at about 50% returned the color in the bottom half of the flower.
6. Clipped both copies of the flower to a photomask that I duplicated.

September Template Challenge #3 at O'Scraps

Mark invited me to go to lunch today, so I picked him up from work and we went to Cagney's.  When I took him back I took this selfie since I hadn't taken one in awhile.  Thanks for lunch, sweetie!
