Autumn Love

Autumn Love

Journaling reads:

O suns and skies and flowers of June,

Count all your boasts together,

Love loveth best of all the year

October's bright blue weather.

–Helen Hunt Jackson, American poet (1830–85)

The weather was beautiful during our visit with Michael and family.  We went leaf peeping.  Most of the color had not arrived yet, but those that had were beautiful!  10/21/2022

Done for the Anna Color Challenge found here:  https://oscraps.com/community/threads/annacolor-challenge-10-21-2022-11-03-2022.36441/

Journaling reads:  The leaves of the trees are beautiful this year!  When the cabin is finished, this time next year will be wonderful!  We will be able to enjoy the inspirations of the changing seasons up close and personal! 10/28/2022

I grouped all of the layers of the template together to create my photomask.

The Spider's Web

The Spider’s Web

HAPPY HALLOWEEN 2022!

I'm not a Halloween buff, but I saw this poem in my Farmer's Almanac email today.  Knowing I had some spiders and webs "hanging around" I decided to do a not-so-creepy page!

Journaling reads:

The hollow winds begin to blow,
The clouds look black, the glass is low;
The soot falls down, the spaniels sleep,
And spiders from their cobwebs peep.
–Dr. Edward Jenner, English physician (1749–1823)

Photo taken of the spider and web on the tree by our front door on 10/31/2022

I blended my photo into a background from the kit using Soft Light blend mode, then I duplicated the photo until I got the desired effect, but in doing so I lost the spider. So, I changed the very top photo back to Normal blend mode and I clipped it to a mask from the kit.

This Is My Father’s World

Verse 1 reads:

This is my Father's world, And to my listening ears All nature sings, and round me rings The music of the spheres.  This is my Father's world:  I rest me in the thought Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas--

Beautiful Leaves

In the Leaves

Journaling reads:  As I walked through our woods today, among the pine needles and fallen leaves, I saw many young sprouts of trees beginning to grow.  Even as young as they were, their leaves were changing with the rest of the trees in the woods.  10/29/2022

Job 14:7-9 (ESV)

7 “For there is hope for a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its shoots will not cease.

8 Though its root grow old in the earth, and its stump die in the soil,

9 yet at the scent of water it will bud and put out branches like a young plant.

Growing...Growing...Gone

Growing…Growing…Gone

Done for the Use It All Challenge here:  https://oscraps.com/community/threads/use-it-all-challenge-with-karen-schulz-october-2022.36272/

Journaling reads:  It is sad...it is exciting...it is wondrous...

How can it be at just 12 1/2 years ago, Hannah waved goodbye to us as we watched from the car to see her off to school.  The wave telling us, “I’ve got this!  I’m a big girl now!”  Sooner than later she will be waving goodbye as she walks out the door to find her place in the world.  It’s wondrous…it’s exciting…it’s sad!

I blended the 3 papers together to create the background using Overlay and Multiply blending modes.

Wildflowers

Wildflowers

Journaling reads:  These beautiful wildflowers are growing at the edge of Ilene’s yard.  Per Wikipedia, the yellow flowers are Bidens aristosa, a North American species of plants in the sunflower family.  Common names include bearded beggarticks, western tickseed, long-bracted beggarticks, tickseed beggarticks, swamp marigold, and Yankee lice.  The little white daisy-like flowers are Symphyotrichum lateriflorum, a species of flowering plant in the aster family.  Commonly known as calico aster, starved aster, and white woodland aster, it is native to eastern and central North America.  It is a perennial and herbaceous plant that may reach heights up to 4 ft. and widths up to 1 ft.

I used the Screen blend mode on the orange bg paper to change the color of the bottom patterned paper and did the same with the papers clipped to the mat on the left.

Be Adventurous

Leif Eriksson Day

This page started out to be about the clouds.  So I inserted ships into the clouds in the sky that I added using a photo of mine with a blend mode of lighten.  I like the effect it gave the trees in the bottom to look like a mountain behind the mist.

Then I got my Almanac newsletter that talked about Leif Eriksson, so it turned into a page about him discovering North America.  I imagined all of the creatures looking on as the ship approached their land.  And I ended up with the scene above.

Journaling reads:

There's a beautiful cloud-fleet passing by,

With white sails all unfurled;

Let's take a sail o'er the blue expanse,

And visit the mystery-world.

–Mary L. Wyatt, Australian poet (d. 1941)

Today is Leif Eriksson Day, Oct. 9th.  Who was this Viking explorer, exactly?  According to Encyclopedia Britannica, “Leif Erikson, Erikson also spelled Eriksson, Ericson, or Eiriksson, Old Norse Leifr Eiríksson, byname Leif the Lucky, (flourished 11th century), Norse explorer widely held to have been the first European to reach the shores of North America. The 13th- and 14th-century Icelandic accounts of his life show that he was a member of an early voyage to eastern North America, although he may not have been the first to sight its coast.”

She Was a Proud Momma

She Was a Proud Momma

Recipe Challenge #7 found here:  https://oscraps.com/community/media/october-recipe-challenge-7-jpg.369214/

Journaling reads:  Mom was not one who liked having her picture taken.  But, I think from the looks of the expression on her face in this photo that she is a proud momma holding her infant, who is one month and 22 days old in this photo.  The infant happens to be me!  “Her hair is as black as coal!” she wrote on the back of the picture.  I got my black hair from her.  Dad’s hair was red.  Some of his buddies even called him, “Red.”

One of the papers from the Tattered and Torn set has a burnished edge.  So, I blended it on top of the papers using the Soft light blend mode and that made the burnished edge required around the layout.  The required ribbon is peeking out from behind the torn paper on the left side.
