Cat Nights Begin
I'm not really a Halloween person, but I did find this
information interesting, since today is August 17th. Journaling reads:
Cat Nights begin on August 17. This term harks back to the
days when people believed in witches. A rather obscure old Irish legend said
that a witch could turn herself into a cat eight times, but on the ninth time
(August 17), she couldn’t regain her human form. This bit of folklore also
gives us the saying, “A cat has nine lives.” Because August is a yowly time for
cats, this may have prompted the speculation about witches on the prowl in the
first place. Also, nights continue to get longer. Cats, crepuscular creatures,
are nocturnal hunters. Their superior night vision means that the nights belong
to them. - Old Farmer’s Almanac

I duplicated and increased the size of the image and changed the opacity so it would blend into the background. I added the houses behind the enlarged image to give them a faded-into-the-background look. I changed the color of the street to B&W to make it gray as mentioned in the poem and also changed it's shape with the transform tool. I took the light element and added it to the window to give it the appearance of the sun shining through the window. From there I just played with the grasses and flowers elements. Fun, fun!

Themes and Occasions Challenge #6 at O'Scraps
Done for the Themes & Occasions Challenge #6
Gardening has been a special event for me this year. Especially when picking
the veggies, and even more so getting to cook and eat the fruits of your labor!
I grew up with parents that always had a garden. And we kids were expected to
work in it, too. It was not fun then! And we raised a garden when our kids were
younger. And, I am sure they would tell you that they did not enjoy it, either!
Last year, believe it or not, my oldest son made some boxes to plant some
veggies in. He really got into it. He even made his own water-catching system.
He was especially excited when the fruits of his labor began to mature so he
could pick and eat!
Well, I caught his excitement and decided to try my hand at the box gardening.
I found a good deal on a 3-tiered setup and bought two. Hubby and I put them
together, bought almost 2 tons of compost for $40 to fill them with and began
planting.
I still have lots to learn as I haven't had that great of a harvest from
anything but the cucumbers. No yellow squash or zucchini at all. No butternut
squash. A few baby butternut and two spaghetti squash. A couple of green
peppers, quite a few snow peas and some lettuce. The tomatoes are finally
coming on since I learned a trick of shaking the plants a bit so the pollen
falls down in the blooms. This is necessary if you have blooms but no fruit.
Who knew?!
I love that I can cut the lettuce and it comes back! And I love the variety I
planted!

We went over to see the progress on Jen’s new house and as I
was taking pictures of the house, I happened to look down and noticed this
lovely, heart-shaped vine growing in the dirt.
It was amazing to see the beauty growing out of the cracked, parched earth.
Genesis 1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb
yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in
itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:13 And the evening and the morning
were the third day.
