Something to Crow About

Something to Crow About

Done for the Font Challenge #2 found here: https://oscraps.com/community/threads/april-challenge-2-font-challenge.41817/

The roosters give the signal for daybreak,
And through my window pours the grey of morn;
Refreshing breezes fan me as I wake,
And down the valley sounds the wesly horn.

Color Crush 84

NEW for iNSD from Joyful Heart Designs!

Dead Tree

This tree has been dead for a couple of years. Mark decided it needed to come down before the winds blew it down on top of my she shed. The problem was that one of the branches hung over the shed and the tree is pretty close to the shed. Mark tied chain and rope to the tree and pulled it taut in a direction away from the shed. After the chainsaw cut he got on the tractor and pulled the tree down. The rope snapped, the tree got stuck but finally he got it down. The branch over the shed was much easier! 4/19/25

Challenges

I have not been very motivated throughout the month to do the challenges at Oscraps, but I have done several yesterday and today.  Hope you are inspired!

Canola

Done for the Big Photo Challenge found here:  https://oscraps.com/community/threads/april-challenge-5-big-photo.41861/

Canola is a crop with plants from three to five feet tall that produce pods from which seeds are harvested and crushed to create canola oil and meal. These plants also produce small, yellow flowers, which beautify the environment. Canola seeds contain about 45 percent oil. This large percentage of oil comes in a small package; canola seeds are similar in size to poppy seeds, though brownish-black in color. Although they look similar, canola and rapeseed plants and oils are very different. Canadian scientists used traditional plant breeding in the 1960s to practically eliminate two undesirable components of rapeseed — erucic acid from oil and glucosinolates from meal — to create “canola,” a contraction of “Canadian” and “ola.” Canola oil is prized for its heart-healthy properties with the least saturated fat of all common culinary oils.

When I drive the widows to their monthly meeting an hour away we always look forward to this beautiful site of canola blooms shining across acres and acres of land.  When we see these fields in bloom, we know for certain that Spring has arrived! It was pretty cloudy the day we traveled to Damascus Baptist Church for the meeting, so the yellow was not as bright in the landscape photo as it was when the sun was shining brightly in the selfie photo!  4/8/25

Black SNAKE!

Done for the Rearrange A Template Challenge #6 found here:  https://oscraps.com/community/threads/april-challenge-6-rearrange-a-template.41831/

Mark encountered the first black snake of the year when he went to the woods. Mark said, “He is feisty!” I told Mark he is probably hungry after his hibernation! I’m glad it was Mark and not me that found it! Black snake or otherwise, I hate snakes! 4/24/25

Sunshine and Daydreams

Done for the Momma O Designer Challenge found here:  https://oscraps.com/community/threads/vicki-stegall-designs-momma-os-april-2025-challenge.41837/

I remember when I was a kid lying in the grass on a sunny day when the sky was filled with wonderful clouds. I would stare at them as they floated by and imagine the different shapes as animals. There’s something so relaxing about this activity! Why did I stop engaging with those… "Dreamy skies and endless possibilities"

WEEK 4

Ever since Mark and I got married and combined two households, I have been frustrated about the lack of room to put “things” the way I would like.  But I am realizing that most of the “things” I am holding onto are of no real value or importance to me any longer. So I have resolved to get rid of the “things” I have no real need for. And I made my first stab at it this week. It wasn’t a deep stab, but I at least nicked the surface! Now to just keep going...slow and steady wins the race, right? If I can manage to do a little bit every week I might even be able to motivate Mark to do the same! But I’m not holding my breath on that one! I’ll take care of my business and leave him to his business. My goal is to have a clutter-free house so my children don’t have to deal with it when I am gone! With God’s help, I CAN DO THIS!

More Color Play Sneak Peak

Be Still

I quite enjoy being by myself. I am not a person who has to be surrounded by noise or

stimulation from others. I enjoy the peace and quiet of my day. If I do feel the need to “get out” I have a friend who is quite the opposite of me and doesn’t like to be alone. She is always willing for me to come to her house and spend time with her. Sometimes I go there just because I know she needs the inter- action. But, really, the only stimulation I need...my soul needs...is to be with God’s people in God’s house a couple of times a week.

“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

Remember Yesterday

"Remember yesterday. You can't change it, but it can make you appreciate the present.” Unknown

I remember this girl as a baby like it was yesterday; my Hannah Banana. She was with us every Saturday when her mommy worked at the Vet in WV back in 2004. I did not see the young woman she has become. I only saw the baby doll she was and the baby dolls she played with.

Moments

I thought I was taking pictures of cherry blossoms but Google Lens identified it as Rubus pensilvanicus, known commonly as Pennsylvania blackberry, is a prickly bramble native to eastern and central North America from Newfoundland south to Georgia, west as far as Ontario, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, and Arkansas.  The species is also established as a naturalized plant in California. They are a common wild fruit and can be eaten raw, cooked into pies, or used in jams and jellies. 4/22/25
