February Weather Folklore

February Weather Folklore

Journaling reads:  Well, I’m thinking this folklore should have been sent at the beginning of February instead of the end!  Oh, well!

This is a baby poncho for Ilene’s great grandchild due in May that I have been knitting through February.  I added the scallop around the neck as an added touch.  I still need to block it and add buttons to the sides.  Then it will be finished!

Quote:

It is forbidden to knit on a doorstep in February, as that is known to lengthen the winter.

NCCSA Basketball Championship Game

Journaling reads:  Our grandson, Ryan, plays for the JV basketball team, Chargers, at Rockwell Christian School in NC.  They made it to the State Championship Playoffs.  I was able to watch it live on YouTube.  It was a nail-biter!  The score was tied and James was fouled.  He made one out of 2 shots which put the Chargers 1 point ahead with 3 seconds to go and the opposing team had the ball.  From the other end of the court, the player threw  the ball towards their player near the goal.  Ryan JUMPED into the air and blocked the basketball from the other team, clinching the win for the Chargers!  WHEW!  A close call!  Way to go, Chargers!  Good job, Ryan!  This grandma can’t take many close calls like that!

Journaling reads:  Mark and I went to lunch at the Mexican restaurant today.  I had the chicken taco salad.  Mark got a couple of tacos and ate half of my salad, as usual.  After I took Mark back to work, I did some grocery shopping.  I saw this row of Forsythia in full bloom on the way to the grocery store.  Beautiful!

Good Food

Good Food Shared with Good Friends

Journaling reads:  It was a rainy day and instead of going out to eat as we normally do Ilene volunteered to fix lunch.  To me the meal was more what I would eat for supper!  But it was delicious and we ate every bite!  We even had dessert!  Ilene loves to cook for others!  When her dear husband was living it was nothing for them to have a whole house full of people to share their meals with!  And it made them happy!  What a blessing they have been to so many people!  And Ilene continues to be a great blessing, especially to Carolyn and me!  Thank You, LORD, for the gift of GOOD FRIENDS!

January Review

January 2023 Monthly Review - Left

Journaling reads:  Michael, Jessica, Jessica, Terry, Chance, Thad, Araya, Ilene, Mark and I went to Ruby Tuesday’s for supper on Friday night.  Nathanael, Sam and Adalina were at the house by the time we finished eating and got back to the house.

The meal was set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Elisabeth’s and Brad’s.  We ate and talked and reminisced and laughed.  We had a dirty Santa gift exchange.  We ate some more and talked and just enjoyed being together.  We had a great day together.  We were only missing two…Michael and Kara.  This year Ryan’s girlfriend was added to the mix.  It is such a bittersweet thing to see the grandchildren growing into young adults.  I hope and pray the cousins always remain close to one another and that they will continue our tradition of gathering as a family!  Thank You, Lord, for the wonderful gift of FAMILY!

The Day Family Christmas gathering was the main event of January.  The kids arrived on Friday evening for the gathering at Elisabeth and Brad’s on Saturday.

We gathered in the living room to play Dirty Santa. #1 choses a gift from the pile.  After opening it, #2 chooses to steal it or pick from the pile.

Photo journaling, top to bottom:  Sam, Nathanael and Adalina spent the weekend at our house.  Jessica and Terry stayed at Ilene’s.  The cousins stayed at Liz’s.  Michael and Jessica stayed at Holiday Inn.

Ten of us gathered at Ruby Tuesday for dinner on Friday evening.  Lots of laughs!

Everyone watched with interest as Michael opened the gift he chose from the pile.  If someone stole his gift he would get to choose another gift from the pile.

Abby and Thad applied makeup to one another, LOL!  Looks like some hair do’s were created as well!

Araya and Abby got under the bench at the kitchen table with Sally.  So dog-gone cute!

January 2023 Monthly Review - Right

Journaling reads:  The threat of rain is what usually causes us to meet at Elisabeth’s.  Our house is just not big enough to house our large family!  And with the threat of rain spending time in the woods would not be comfortable!  Lizzie’s house is the perfect size and has plenty of places for the not-so-small kids to spread out and do their own thing now that they are older!  Plus, Liz and Brad have woods now that the kids can ride 4-wheelers, dirt bikes and explore.  They even played some hide and seek!  And the rain didn’t amount to very much, if I remember correctly!

Everyone but Michael and Jessica went to church with us on Sunday and then we all went to Dairi-O for lunch before parting ways to our separate homes.

Photo journaling, top left, across and down:  YUM!  LET’S EAT!

Not sure where this picture was taken.  Probably on the trip to NC or on the way back home.

I don’t think Michael realized he was included in this picture, LOL!

Love it when our family worships together!

Addy’s prize from the Dirty Santa game.  CANDY!

We missed Michael and Jessica not being with us on Sunday at church.

Hard Working Man

Hard Working Man

Done for the Member Challenge – Masculine Layout found here:  https://oscraps.com/community/threads/masculine-layout.37053/

Journaling reads:  May 2022 Mark began working on a cabin for the fire pit area so there would be some shelter for those who would get chilled in the cooler months of the year.  By the time we had our family gathering at the end of May he was starting on the floor.  In June he finished covering the floor.  In July he started raising the walls.  We got sick at the end of July and it took about a month before he felt strong enough to work on the cabin again.  So it was September before he began the roof.  The first plan was to make a roof that sloped from the front to the back.  But then he decided to make a peaked roof, so he tore down the temporary sloped roof and began the peaked roof in October.  At the end of October we got the tin for the roof.  And in November Mark installed the tin.  Next he began putting wood on the walls and by the end of December he had milled and installed enough wood to cover the entire cabin on the outside.  Next came a door for the front, glass and plastic in the windows and the other doorways.  He has been working on the windows more and put another layer of flooring down.  Eventually he needs to cover the area where the roof rafters sit on the cabin so any heat used stays inside the cabin.  How he managed to do all of the work himself I’ll never know!

Snow Moon Risin'

Snow Moon Risin’

Journaling reads:  According to almanac.com, the February full moon is called Snow Moon because of “the typically heavy snowfall that occurs in February.  On average, February is the United States’ snowiest month, according to data from the National Weather Service.”

Photos taken:

First photo taken at 7:30 p.m. while the moon was low on the horizon.

Second photo taken at 8:00 p.m. while the moon was still behind the tree line.

Third photo taken at 8:30 p.m. while the moon was almost above the tree line.

Fourth photo taken at 9:00 p.m. after the moon cleared the tree line.

Quote reads:

The Moon, like a flower

In heaven's high bower,

With silent delight

Sits and smiles on the night.

–William Blake (1757–1827), English poet

I blended an element into the fourth moon to give it the appearance of “a man in the moon”

Done for the Lynn Grieveson Featured Product Challenge found here:  https://oscraps.com/community/threads/2023-02-lynn-grieveson-february-2023-featured-product-challenge.37065/

Journaling is a verse taken from the hymn, “This is My Father’s World”:

This is my Father's world:
The birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white,
Declare their Maker's praise.
This is my Father's world:
He shines in all that's fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass,
He speaks to me everywhere.

I blended a larger version of the photo into the background paper.

Grandpa Look-Alike

Grandpa Look-Alike

Journaling reads:  My daughter, Jessica, posted this picture of my sweet grandson in 2018 a little over 5 months after my husband died:  “With spray painted hair and a plaid shirt w/ a pen in the pocket, he didn’t exactly look 100 but Thad’s teacher told me he was so excited to tell her “I look just like my mommy’s Dad”! I cried and cried right there in the P/T conference. If Thad grows to have my dad’s character, love for people and love for our Lord, I’ll be one happy momma!” Feb. 2, 2018

I adjusted the hue and saturation of the plaid overlay.  I adjusted the lightness of the ribbon.

Real Life

Done for the Momma O’s Challenge found here:  https://oscraps.com/community/threads/vicki-stegall-designs-momma-os-february-2023-challenge.36943/

Journaling reads:  When I think about “real life” and what that looks like to me, or should look like to me, I have to view it from God’s perspective.  You see, since becoming a child of God, a Christian, my life is no longer mine to do with as I please.  My life now belongs to Him, lock, stock, and barrel!  So when I have God in the center of my life, as He should be, when I read “in Him we live, and move, and have our being” I believe that covers everything I do, everything I say, every place I go, my every thought, everything I look at, everything I touch.  There should be no part of my life that He is not a part of – the center of.  And the word of God, the Bible, is my daily guide book.  So, when someone asks me, “Why do you go to church?”  I have a clear answer…..Hebrews 10:25 tells me to not forsake the assembling of myself together (with other believers)…..go to church, in other words.  When someone asks me why I pray before my meals…..1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells me to give thanks in everything, because it is God’s will for me (and you).  When your enemy hates you, what do you do?  Matthew 5:43-45  Jesus says, “you’ve heard you should love your neighbor and hate your enemy, But I’m telling you the opposite…..love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.  Why?  Because you are the children of God and even He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good and sends rain on the just and the unjust people!  Our sinful nature wants revenge, but God says, “Vengeance is Mine…..I will repay!” Romans 12:19.  Is it easy?  Not on your life!

I understand that not everyone believes in God.  Not everyone believes that Jesus Christ died to save people of their sins.  Not everyone believes that Jesus rose from the dead.  Not everyone believes there is a heaven and hell.  Not everyone believes that the Bible is God’s word.  I cannot convince anyone.  I believe that is the job of the Holy Spirit.  My job is to share what I believe and let God do the convincing.  And I believe that we are all sinners.  I believe that God sent Jesus from heaven to earth to be born miraculously of a virgin so He could live a perfectly sinless life (sin is passed to us through our fathers, not our mothers) that I could not live, and then die a death that I could not die…..one that paid for my sins – a sacrificial death, dying in my stead.  I believe He arose from the dead and ascended into heaven to live forever more so I, as a believer, can live in heaven with Him forever after I die.  But, until that time, I try (unsuccessfully most of the time) to live a life that is pleasing to God; a life that is an example to everyone I come in contact with – a life that is different because He made the difference in me!

Acts 17:22-31

Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, “You men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are too superstitious.  For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions (idols), I found an altar with this inscription, To the Unknown God. Whom therefore you ignorantly worship, Him declare I unto you.  God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that He is Lord of heaven and earth, dwells not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, seeing He gives to all life, and breath, and all things; and has made of one blood (race) all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined the times before appointed (predetermined), and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after Him, and find Him, though He be not far from every one of us:  for in Him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’  Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device (idols).  And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men everywhere to repent:  because He has appointed a day, in which He will judge the world in righteousness by that Man (His Son, Jesus Christ) whom He has ordained; whereof He has given assurance unto all men, in that He has raised Him (Jesus Christ) from the dead.”
