Nature's Artistry

I went ahead and finished my Monthly Review Pages for August since we only have one more day in the month.....I was anxious to get it done because the spread turned out so pretty!  (Even if I do say so myself!). ;)

Nature's Artistry

August Review - Left

Journaling reads:

We had cooler weather the first week in August, so I enjoyed sitting on the deck with my camera to watch the birds.  Mark fixed a circle of metal with hooks on it so I could place a 14” plastic dish in it and hang it with four chains next to the bird feeder.  I was hoping the birds would use it as a bird bath, especially the hummers, so we got a little solar fountain for it.  I haven’t even seen the hummers go near it to drink, let alone take a bath in it.  I have seen several of the other birds drinking from it and Mark saw one actually bathing in it one day.  I saw one from the kitchen window but by the time I got the camera to get a picture, the bird was done bathing.

I moved the bird feeders to the deck so I could get better photos of the birds.  I sat opposite the feeders and hoped that the plants would hide me from them.  A few didn’t mind being closer to me but they were very nervous so I moved my chair further away.

When I made a double batch of salsa for Mark from the tomatoes growing from volunteer plants, I gathered all of the ingredients and worked on my lap desk chopping up all of the ingredients while I listened to audiobooks.  It took a couple of hours to get everything chopped.

August Review - Right

Journaling reads:

I woke up Tuesday, August 8th with a sore throat and headache that I could not get to go away.  On Wednesday I did a COVID home test which read positive.  So I called my COVID doctor, Dr. Guardino in Reidsville (an hour away) and got an appointment to see him on Wednesday afternoon.  He put me on his COVID protocol.  This is what I took twice daily for 10 days.....plus PredniSONE and 80mg Famotidine (or Pepcid) and Promethazine for nausea:  1 aspirin (325mg) a day (morning), Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Cucumin (or turmeric), Quercetin (immunity booster), Zinc, Hydroxychloroquine (prescribed), Doxycycline Hyclate (prescribed)

It was hard on my IBS stomach to ingest so much medicine at one time, but I was able to do it with God’s help!

Even though the rains have been spora- dic this summer, the grass has continued to be green.

Bobby, Joy, Mark and I went to Lakeview Family Restaurant for supper.  Too hot to ride the bikes, so we rode in the AC.

While the men and Kristy did some target practice in our woods, (they spent several hours in the woods! ) Joy, Ellie and I went back to the house to be in the air conditioning and chit chat.   Joy and I had a good visit!

Before going to the house, Ellie enjoyed swinging for a few minutes.

Rural Living in America

Journaling reads:  I love living in rural America.  I’m a country girl at heart and I’d rather have the quiet of the country than the hustle and bustle of the city.  But even the quiet can get busy.  Or, maybe “busy” is the wrong word.....familiar.....maybe, too familiar?  Being familiar with something means that you know all you “want” to know about the thing.  Your interest is no longer peaked so you begin to lose interest.  But can you ever know all there is to know about a thing?  I’m not sure.  Maybe.

These thoughts ran through my mind as we rode the bike to church one beautiful Sunday morning.  I usually carry the camera with me, even though the roads we usually travel are “familiar”.  On this day I decided to look beyond the familiarity and “see” it with new eyes.  And I rediscovered why I love rural America.

I love seeing people gathered to worship on the Lord’s Day to the dictates of their own hearts.  I love the blue of the sky beyond the tree tops.  I love the fields of grain blowing in the breeze.  I love the old out buildings that refuse to give up their usefulness.  I love the beauty of the crepe myrtle blooming in the oppressive heat of summer.  I love traveling the back roads and seeing the sights and smelling the smells.  I love seeing the bales of hay wrapped and stacked neatly in the field, looking like huge marshmallows just waiting to be eaten by the livestock during those cold, winter months; another taste of summer.  But, probably most of all, I love seeing the American flag waving in the breeze, proudly displayed by someone who is proud to be an American!  And, on this August day I am reminded of why I love life in rural America!

And then there are the other reasons I love living in rural America.....our woods, God’s creation living and moving in their natural surroundings, including the birds and mammals.  Thank You, LORD, for the blessings of rural living in America!

Spooky Creepy!

Done for the Love of the Dark Side Designer Challenge found here:  https://oscraps.com/community/threads/%E2%99%A5-love-of-the-dark-side-%E2%99%A5-challenge-with-joyful-heart-designs-august-2023.38100/

The spookiest, creepiest thing I have ever “participated” in was watching The Exorcist at the cinema in 1976.  The movie came out in 1973, but being a Christian from a Christian family, we were not allowed to see the movie.  But after I got married my husband and I went to see it.  Watching all of the gore spew from her mouth was gross.  Watching her head turn 360 degrees was horrible!  I wanted to get up and leave the movie…..but it was like I was glued to my chair and couldn’t move!  After we went home to our 3rd floor apartment and getting ready for bed, I had to use the bathroom.  The bathroom had a bulb stuck in a light socket in the ceiling that did not give off much light.  I made my husband stand outside the bathroom door the whole time I was in there!

Our pastor at the time knew some other preachers who participated in an exorcism.  The teenager would threaten his parents with knives and was doing all kinds of creepy things that the pastors would not even share.  Our pastor told us it was too gruesome for the participating pastors to even discuss.  I cannot imagine actually witnessing something like that!  I know Satan is powerful and is “walking around seeking whom he may devour” so I believe in the whole premise behind The Exorcist!  I also believe that “greater is He who is in me than he that is in the world” but I’m not going to test Satan’s powers.  So I stay clear of anything occult related!  I’m praying I don’t have nightmares after creating this page!

Journaling reads:  When I look at this picture of Ryan and me, I am amazed at how much this little ball of energy has changed over the years.  Full of spunk and “boyness” he has become a wonderful young man with a Christ- like spirit!  God bless you, Ryan!  5/14/2010
