I'm Back with Challenges and Color Play!

So, I took some time off to work on some personal things, but I'm back and ready to get scrappin' again!  It's late in the month, so I probably won't get all of the challenges at OScraps done this month, but I will do my best!

First up, the two challenges I have completed this past week.  Second, three layouts I did yesterday playing with the new April 2024 Color Play.  The April 2024 Color Play can be found HERE and is 50% off for a limited time!  Mix and match or grab them all!

Quote It Challenge #1

Done for the April Quote It Challenge found here:  https://oscraps.com/community/threads/april-challenge-1-quote-it.39576/

Quote:  “A smile is the best makeup a girl could wear.” ― Marilyn Monroe

Journaling reads:  We took a late lunch break before heading back to the hotel after our touring in Hershey, PA.  We ate at Houlihan’s Restaurant.  I had a stuffed chicken breast and Ilene enjoyed ribs.  4/20/24

I layered a mixed media bg over an AI mixed media paper and reduced the opacity of the top paper to 61% to allow some of the color to come through from the AI paper.

Font Challenge #2

Done for the April Font Challenge found here:  https://oscraps.com/community/threads/april-challenge-2-font-challenge.39562/

Journaling reads: We had a busy day planned for Saturday.  So we had to get up and be ready to eat breakfast at 8:00.  Then we drove to Hershey, PA.  We went through a ride in the Hershey Store that showed the process from beginning to end of the candy production.  Next we rode the trolley through town before going through the High Point Hershey house.  Then we went back to the store to pick up some goodies before leaving.  We had not eaten lunch, so we ate a late lunch at Houlihan’s Restaurant before we drove back to Strasburg.                                                   4/20/24

Once again, I layered a mixed media bg over an AI mixed media paper and reduced the opacity of the top paper to 61% to allow some of the color to come through from the AI paper.

Oh to be like the anemone,

Carefree, bright and beautiful

As they flutter in the breeze,

They remind us to relax,

Be in the moment,

Breathe.

The Violet

The April 2024 Color Play can be found HERE and is 50% off for a limited time!  Mix and match or grab them all!

Down in a green and shady bed,

A modest violet grew;

Its stalk was bent, it hung its head

As if to hide from view.

And yet it was a lovely flower,

Its color bright and fair;

It might have graced a rosey bower,

Instead of hiding there.

Yet thus it was content to bloom,

In modest tints arrayed;

And there diffused a sweet perfume,

Within the silent shade.

Then let me to the valley go

This pretty flower to see;

That I may also learn to grow

In sweet humility.

Be Happy

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I finally did a challenge this month!  Done for the Anna Color Challenge 3/8 - 3/21 found here:  https://oscraps.com/community/threads/annacolor-challenge-03-08-2024-03-21-2024.39458/

Journaling reads:  I’m not sure where the idea of wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day  came into play, but I don’t own much green, so I donned my usual black attire for church.  But after the group text with my kids sharing some of their green-wear, Mark decided to wear some green.  3/17/24

A Walk on the Wild Side

A Walk on the Wild Side

Journaling reads:  It was a beautiful day for my walk.  I don’t walk in our woods through the week unless I do it at a time when Mark is home.  The weather was so nice this week that I was able to walk several times.  I think I walked 2 or 3 times at the foot track over by Mark’s shop and I walked 3 times in the woods this week.  Today Mark was working on the saw mill while I walked.  And twice he was chopping wood while I walked.  I walked a mile at the foot track in 18 minutes.  I began my walks in the woods from the house and I can walk to the end of our property in the woods in 10 minutes and then back to the house in about 20 minutes, but I don’t know how far it is.  I’ll call it a mile!  3/16/24

Cherry Blossoms

Journaling reads:

The season comes when, from her three-month's trance,
The Earth awakens: already her deep heart
Begins to stir, and send its life abroad.
–Thomas Buchanan Read (1822–72)

“The cherry blossom, or sakura, is the flower of trees in Prunus subgenus Cerasus.  “Sakura” usually refers to flowers of ornamental cherry trees, such as cultivars of Prunus serrulata, not trees grown for their fruit (although these also have blossoms).  Cherry blossoms have been described as having a vanilla-like smell, which is mainly attributed to coumarin.  Sakura trees are often called Japanese Cherry in English.  The cultivation of ornamental cherry trees began to spread in Europe and the United States in the early 20th century, particularly after Japan presented trees to the United States as a token of friendship in 1912.” - wikipedia

Miscellaneous

I'm dealing with health issues, so my posts will be sporadic at best for awhile.  Thank you for visiting!

Mourning Doves

Journaling reads:  Mourning doves usually are not seen so close to the house.  But since moving the bird feeders from the yard to the deck they come to find the seed that falls from the feeders onto the ground.  Every once in awhile, they even come onto the deck flooring to get the misplaced seed.  Once in a while I see them on the deck railing just beneath the bird feeders.  But, mostly, they are down on the ground under the feeders.  They are very skittish, and if they see me watching from the kitchen window they fly off to a nearby tree, cooing frantically as they fly off.  I love hearing their cooing noises.  2/28/24

Mr. Red

Journaling reads:  The male cardinal is such a beautiful bird!  I love seeing them come to the feeders.  They are pretty skittish and fly when they see me in the kitchen, even when I stand far from the window.  I had to zoom in from the diningroom in order to capture this picture of him perched on the deck railing waiting for his turn at the feeder.  2/29/24
